Japkes Recovery
An Update and Thank You For Your Prayers & Encouragement.
With chemo and radiation therapy behind me I was anxiously awaiting my consultation with my doctors. I was very pleased to hear they saw no signs of cancer in my body. With that great news I have returned to work full time hoping to have my high standards of client service back to speed no later than the end of February. Thanks to everyone for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. A very SPECIAL thank you to all of you who sent those uplifting E-mails and cards.
John L. Scotts Anniversary
2006 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of John L. Scott Real Estate. As this year-long celebration kicks off, we are taking time to reflect upon the history of the company, which started over seven decades ago when a young Scottish immigrant named John L. Scott set out on a long journey with his bride and infant son in their Model-T Ford. The two-year trip included a stop in the flourishing city of Seattle. Soon thereafter, John L. Scott began working as a sales associate for a local real estate firm, and in 1931, he established his own real estate company, building a successful business based upon his integrity and ambition to provide the highest quality customer service.
Seventy-five years and three generations later, John L. Scott Real Estate has grown to become one of the largest and most successful regional real estate companies in the nation, and is now led by the founders grandson, Chairman and CEO J. Lennox Scott.
It is my pleasure to represent such a distinguished, family-owned, local company. As we celebrate our 75th anniversary, I know that we have clients like you to thank for John L. Scotts long history of success.
Child-Proofing Your Home.
Family Safety is Important.
Did you know that accidental injuries from burns, drowning, suffocating, choking, falling, poisoning, and firearms are the leading cause of death in children 14 years of age and younger? A third of these incidents happen in the childs own home. Though we cant prevent all accidents, a few simple childproofing measures can help make your home safer for young ones.
Ø Turn your water heater to no higher than 120 degrees to prevent scalding.
Ø Use safety latches on doors that lead to swimming pools, hot tubs, or other potentially dangerous outdoor areas.
Ø Secure heavy furniture and bookshelves with devices that adhere them to walls. Also place furniture away from windows.
Ø End caps on door stoppers can be choking hazards. Remove them.
Ø Plastic bumpers on sharp corners of coffee tables, entertainment centers, and other furniture can prevent bumps, cuts and bruises.
Ø Gate off stairways and entrances to rooms that contain dangerous or fragile objects.
Ø When cooking, turn pan handles inward or use the back burners if possible.
Ø Keep dangerous chemicals and poisons up high and in a room that is not accessible to youngsters. Even a latched cabinet cant always keep diligent youngsters out.
Ø Place covers over all electrical outlets.
Ø Use a cordless phone so you never have to leave a child unattended while you answer the phone. Keep it close in case you need to call someone quickly.
Ø Install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide monitors on every floor of your house. Check the batteries regularly.
While supervision is the best way to prevent unfortunate accidents, any parent knows that you cant watch small children every second. Following some or all of these tips should help make your home a little safer, and offer you peace of mind.
